About

I'm a kid who is interested in too many things, and sometimes I like to blather about those things.

I'm doing my undergrad in evolutionary biology at McGill University in Montreal. I hope to be a renegade palaeontologist/illustrator thingy extraordinaire someday.

More sprites! Ayden, Haylee, and Lawyer Albert.

  • Albert: OH
  • Albert: YOU MUST COME TO KINGSTON AT LEAST ONE MORE TIME
  • Albert: I found the greatest chicken fingers here
  • Edna: you want me to go to Kingston for chicken fingers?
  • Albert: chicken ruuuuuuuuuun
  • Albert: yes
  • Albert: yes I do

my brother

He literally spent 70 hours on Skyrim and 23-24 on the new Deus Ex in the last two weeks while also being in law school full time. He made Dean’s List last year and is getting his second course prize for one of his classes last semester.

Now do you see what I have to put up with

Now do you understand my childhood

Sibling Rivalry

Albert
this was before you were alive
you know, back when I was the favourite by default
and not by merit

Edna
oh please

Albert
yeah, I know

you’re clearly the favourite
I contend it’s based on novelty, rather than an objective evaluation

Edna: Also I don’t think I need that much storage space, but 2TB for under $100? Sign me the hell up.
Albert: You kids and your nigh-unlimited storage.  Back in my day, we got a hundred megabytes and we were grateful for it!

penetration

Albert
Also, I keep using the word penetrate

Edna
Yes you do
in conjunction with adverbs “nicely” and “deep”

Albert
It’s a very evocative word
Well surely you will concede that when talking about penetration, deep is preferable to shallow

Edna
that is sort of the desired effect

Albert
right
so deeper penetration is nicer

Edna
can you just stop saying penetration
we’re not even talking about curry any more

Albert
I know
fine, I’ll just penetrate the depths of various rental property listings and leave you alone

Valley, which is Big.

Albert
it’s a valley
a big one
so big they named a town after it
the town.
in the valley.

Edna
they also have jamborees there.

Albert
so I’ve heard

Edna

also quite aptly named

Albert

it’s a jamboree
that takes place in a valley
a big one

It’s an Alberta thing

Albert
You know what I just realized last week?
all the people out here
none of them realize how big the rocky mountains are
That’s why they say montreal has a “mountain”
They just have no idea what a real mountain range looks like

Edna
The Laurentian “mountains”
THEY HAVE A SKI HILL THAT GOES DOWN TO SEA LEVEL
That is so wrong

Albert
A couple people are planning trips out to the rockies this summer
I was telling them to hit up the Okanagan Valley
They barely even have mountains there, from a rockies perspective
but compared to out here, holy shit are those some mountains
like my friend
who wants to try biking from Calgary to Kelowna

Edna
hahaha
Wrong
That is wrong.
That is not how you move around in the mountains.

Albert
I don’t think he fully realizes how steep the Rogers Pass is.
True, it’s technically a “valley” but it’s a valley that you get to by going straight up the side of a mountain.
A real mountain.
With a giant snow cap and everything.
I was trying to explain it.
“No, when I drove through there, I had to floor it in third gear just to keep my speed above 80 kph.”

Standards

Edna
Saturday there’s a Star Wars marathon!
on campus.

Albert

Sounds pretty nerdy.
And star wars? On a campus with a William Shatner building?
heresy

Edna

Indeed.
I wish there were an “even numbered Star Trek movies” marathon.

Albert

Although in class today, there were two pictures of William Shatner in the powerpoint.
One for “standard of care for police officers”
and then again for “standard of care for lawyers”
I was waiting for “standard of care for starship captains”

Family hospitality

Albert
I suppose he can stay
but there is a strong implication from both Adam and myself that he should bring stuff from Montreal

Edna
like what?

Albert
Adam is partial to sugar pie
I prefer smoked meat from Schwartz’s

Edna
hmm. I’ll tell him this

Albert
It’s not a firm requirement of his staying here
but it will probably result in a more positive disposition towards him for the duration of the evening.
Of course, if he’s carrying perishables, I’ll be more inclined to meet him at the door.
